NDC fails to file application for review of Assin North injunction as Court offices close early.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) legal team was locked shocked a few moments ago when they encountered closed offices when they attempted to file a review of the injunction placed on the swearing in of Member of Parliament-elect for Assin North.

James Gyakye Quayson who wrestled back the Assin North seat for the NDC in the 2020 election was dragged to court by some persons who claimed he was not qualified to be a Member of Parliament because he held dual citizenship as at the time he filed his nomination to contest the seat.

In an interesting twist of events, a Cape Coast High Court today presided over by Justice Kwasi Boakye ruled that Mr. Quayson was “restrained from holding himself out as Member of Parliament-elect for the Assin North constituency within the Central Region of the Republic of Ghana and further presenting himself to be sworn in as Member of Parliament-elect as such until the final determination of the petition.”

Sensing the impact of the decision on the NDC’s bid for parliamentary leadership, the NDC legal team hurriedly attempted to file an application for a review of the court’s decision.

The legal team was left shocked when it arrived at the offices of the Cape Coast High Court to find that the officers had closed and locked up.

According to the lawyers, they arrived at the offices before the closing time of 3pm.

The lawyers were at lost as to why the offices of the court was closed earlier than their official closing time on a day that such a case was being heard.

The decision and the failure to file a review means the NDC would have 136 MPs-elect as against the NPP’s 137 in parliament ahead of their swearing-in tomorrow January 07 2021.

The Cape Coast High Court’s decision came moments after a Wenchi High Court dismissed as similar application for injunction against the EC declared winner of the Techiman South elections, NPP candidate Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah.
